Take on AK and Aldo

Alan Kennedy and John Aldridge are amongst a whole host of former international footballers who will pull on their boots once again as a curtain raiser to the new Barclays Premier League season - all in aid of the Rhys Jones Memorial Fund.

The Liverpool legends, along with Everton heroes Dave Watson and Graham Stuart, are just a few of the names already confirmed to contest the trophy on Saturday, August 7 at Play Football in Crosby.

And fans can try their hand at taking on the ex-pros as limited places are available for five-a-side teams to enter the competition.

Team entry costs £160, with all proceeds going towards realising the dream of a Rhys Jones Community Centre in Croxteth.

Squads of eight will be organised into groups and if they reach the semi-final, they will test their skills against some of the best-known footballers to have graced the region in recent years.

Even organiser Christine Chellew said: "We're really excited about this because it brings together some fantastic former footballers who've supported this fund consistently over the past 12 months, and it also gives the weekend hobby footballers the chance to play alongside them.

"Everybody knows how big a part football played in Rhys's life, so it's a natural theme for us to go with here.

"It's not often you can get the chance to meet these sporting heroes, let alone play football with them, so we are hoping it is a really fun day."

It is a football-themed day, but will also showcase an international food festival and host a variety of stalls specialising in sports nutrition, sports massage and physiology.

There will also be the opportunity to win a year-long membership at a Liverpool Lifestyles fitness centre.
